Northampton defender Peter Gilbert has agreed a new one-year contract at Sixfields.
The former Sheffield Wednesday man, who joined the Cobblers in November, will now remain with the League Two club until at least June 2011.
Town boss Ian Sampson said: "I am really pleased that Peter is staying.
"He is a defender with a good pedigree and he was a model of consistency last season.
"He joined us in the autumn and he was a key member of the defence in our good run in the second half of the season."
