Top scorer among six offered new terms as retained list announced

Northampton have announced their retained list for next season, with six players being released, six offered new terms and three put on the transfer list. Town fans will be pleased to hear that 17-goal top scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa is among the six players who are out of contract this summer but have been offered new terms. Liam Davis, Peter Gilbert, Andy Holt, Abdul Osman and Kevin Thornton are the others considering whether to sign new deals with the Cobblers, who fell just short of the League Two play-offs following a fine run after Christmas. A total of 12 players are already under contract for the 2010/11 season but three have been made available for transfer - Chris McCready, who went on loan to Tranmere last season, fellow defender Craig Hinton and striker Steve Guinan.

Six released

Much-travelled utility man John Curtis and former trainees Joe Benjamin and Alex Dyer are among those not offered new deals. Midfielder Luke Guttridge will also be leaving the club, along with Irish forwards Gary Mulligan and Stephen O'Flynn. Manager Ian Sampson is yet to make a decision on American striker Seb Harris, who scored once in 10 substitute appearances last season after joining the club on a short-term deal. The nine players under contract for next season and not on the transfer list are goalkeepers Chris Dunn and Paul Walker, right-back Paul Rodgers, centre-back Dean Beckwith, midfielders Ryan Gilligan and Michael Jacobs, along with young strikers Courtney Herbert, Alex Konstantinou and Billy McKay.
