Ian Sampson is waiting to hear back from star striker Adebayo Akinfenwa to learn if he is to commit his future to Northampton Town.
The giant front-man has been offered a new two-year contract to stay at Sixfields, with his existing deal to expire in the summer.
Akinfenwa's 16 goals this season have been key to Northampton's late surge for the play-offs and Sampson admits he is eager to retain his services.
"Bayo has been offered a two-year contract and I hope he will sign," he told the club's official website.
"I want every player that I've offered a contract to to sign but ultimately it's down to Bayo whether he signs or not and hopefully he will make a decision sooner rather than later as we would love him to stay."
Meanwhile, assistant boss Malcolm Crosby is close to signing a new deal to prolong his stay with the League Two outfit.
"Malcolm Crosby hasn't signed his contract yet but everything has been agreed so hopefully that will all be tied up in the next couple of weeks."
