Defender staying with Northampton

Northampton have turned down a transfer request from highly-rated defender Danny Jackman. The 26-year-old has enjoyed two splendid seasons with the Cobblers but his performances have not gone unnoticed. A host of clubs have been monitoring his situation and Northampton chairman David Cardoza has had to reject several bids. Jackman submitted a written transfer request earlier this week but Cardoza has made it clear he will not be allowed to leave. "Danny has asked to leave in writing but we have said no," said the chairman. "He is contracted to us until the end of the season and I have repeatedly turned down a number of offers for Danny. "Danny is a true professional and while we understand his wish to play at a higher level, we hope he can begin to achieve that aim by helping us to promotion this season. "He is a first-class player with a first-class attitude and I hope that on Saturday the Cobblers supporters show just how pleased we are to have him at the club, and give him a great reception against Macclesfield."
