Gray waiting for defender to make a decision

Northampton Town boss Stuart Gray is waiting for defender Chris McCready to make a decision on the club's contract offer. McCready has been training with the Cobblers during pre-season after being released by Crewe Alexandra at the end of the last campaign. The 26-year-old has been offered terms to stay at Sixfields and Gray is optimistic that the former Tranmere stopper will accept the deal on the table. Gray told the club's official website: "We've made him an offer and we're waiting for a decision to come back, so fingers crossed that will bolster the defence up a little bit. "He's got that experience at the back." Meanwhile, QPR winger Romone Rose was a surprise inclusion among Northampton's squad for Saturday's 3-1 pre-season defeat at MK Dons, coming on just after the half-hour mark. Gray added: "It was a last minute thing, we had the game watched at Kettering and he came on and we've asked Jim Magilton. "All credit to the boy, he's driven up here, not met anybody and we've ended up throwing him on. It's case of sitting down and talking to Jim Magilton, talking to the boy and obviously the boy's agent as well."
