Southend United have snapped up Matt Heath and John White on loan from League One rivals Colchester United.
The defensive duo have joined the Shrimpers until the end of August with a view to extending their stays at Roots Hall.
Heath failed to establish himself in Us manager Paul Lambert's plans last season and had a spell on loan at Brighton at the end of the campaign.
He has two years left on his contract and admitted earlier in the summer that he was hoping to have a future with Colchester.
White was also in and out of Lambert's side last term and the full-back will be keen to secure regular football during his stint with Southend.
