Accrington Stanley have offered a contract to Mark Hughes after the defender left Northampton Town.

Defender expected to give answer on Friday

Accrington Stanley have offered a contract to Mark Hughes after the defender left Northampton Town. Hughes had been handed the opportunity of a new deal by the Cobblers, but it was withdrawn after he failed to give a response in time. He has now linked up with Accrington at a pre-season training camp and is mulling over a permanent move to the League Two club. "He's come down to Colchester with us this week," Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. "We've made him an offer and he is due to give us an answer on Friday." However, Stanley could face competition to sign the 22-year-old after reports claimed Crewe Alexandra are showing an interest.
