Northampton boss John Gorman says he is in a 'dilemma' regarding a potential deal for striker Craig Davies.
The Welsh international is looking to end his time in Italy with Verona and has been training with The Cobblers during pre-season.
Whilst Gorman is still desperate to sign the 20-year-old hot-shot, Verona are looking to recoup some or all of the £100,000 they spent to sign the talented youngster from Oxford United back in January.
Northampton are also attempting to ward off interest from bigger sides and Gorman says the deal is currently at a crossroads.
"It's a dilemma," admitted Gorman. "We're still trying hard to bring him in but Verona want a fee for him.
"I do know that other clubs are in for him, including some from a higher level than us, and that just shows the calibre of player we're after."
The Cobblers are looking to strengthen their squad after gaining promotion to League One, and Gorman says he is still hopeful of bringing in new blood before the season kicks-off on August 5.
"All my staff have been at games this week watching players who are possible loan deals," Gorman added.
"But I'm not panicking yet, there's still time and players always become available."
