Northampton Town have received a dual boost on the defensive front.

Cobblers boss Colin Calderwood has signed Jason Crowe on a free transfer from Grimsby Town and also persuaded Ashley Westwood (pictured) to ink a contract extension.

Crowe, who can also play in midfield, has penned a two-year deal at The Sixfields Stadium after shunning the chance to stay at Grimsby.

The 26-year-old had spent two seasons at Blundell Park but has now opted to switch allegiances to promotion hopefuls Northampton.

Westwood had been considering the offer of a new deal from Calderwood since the end of the season and has agreed the 12-month extension.

Calderwood is still waiting for Tommy Jaszczun and Marc Richards to resolve their futures with The Cobblers.

Jaszczun is currently on holiday, while Richards has rejected the contract offer but hopes to negotiate suitable terms.
