Cobblers lose skipper

Northampton Town captain Ashley Westwood is out for the rest of the season.

Northampton Town's play-off ambitions have been dealt a blow by the news that captain Ashley Westwood will miss the final three matches of the season.

The Crewe Alexandra, Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday defender (pictured) sustained knee ligament damage in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Cheltenham Town.

Scans on Tuesday confirmed he will miss the remainder of the campaign - including the League Two play-offs - should The Cobblers claim a place in the top seven by the season's end.

"It is terrible luck for Ashley," manager Colin Calderwood told the club's official website. "This injury has come at a terrible time for him and the club.

"To pick up this injury on the same ground where he dislocated his shoulder last season just shows how unlucky he has been."

Meanwhile, Cobblers striker Marc Richards has returned to The Sixfields Stadium after the player completed a month's loan at League Two rivals Rochdale.
