Northampton Town have released defender Jerry Gill after manager Colin Calderwood decided not to renew the player's six-month contract.
The former Birmingham City man was contracted until the end of 2003, despite suffering a knee injury in April.
Gill was able to regain his fitness and make some reserve team appearances at The Sixfields Stadium but Calderwood has decided not to renew his contract and has allowed him to leave on a Bosman free.
"Jerry has done very well to regain his fitness," Calderwood told the club's official website.
"But he is maybe a little unfortunate in that we have Des Lyttle, Luke Chambers and Ashley Westwood who can all play at right back.
"Jerry's contract has come to an end, and while he might be leaving us, I'm sure he can do an excellent job somewhere else, and I wish him all the very best for the future."
Gill may not have long to find a new club, with Second Division club Peterborough United seemingly showing interest in the defender.
