Hill hails late Rochdale win

Keith Hill believes Rochdale are right back in the League One play-off chase after the last-gasp victory against Port Vale.

The Dale boss saw his team snatch a crucial three points courtesy of a goal from substitute Calvin Andrew in the fifth minute of injury-time. A dire contest appeared set for a goalless draw until the big striker leapt to meet a Callum Camps cross and glance a header into the bottom corner of the net. The result leaves Rochdale four points behind sixth-placed Chesterfield with a game in hand and Hill was delighted to get the victory. "There's not much better in football than a winner in the 94th minute. That feeling - wow!" said Hill. "The game was meandering, going nowhere. It was not much of a spectacle and it looked 0-0 all over. So the winner was unbelievable, absolutely brilliant. "You cannot bottle that emotion at the end and that is what keeps driving you forward because you are always searching for a better moment than that. "We're right back in the play-off mix thanks to Calvin Andrew scoring that goal. Football careers are made on moments and your season, what you've been working up to and including today, all changes on that moment. "Calvin Andrew scoring that goal will remain with me for the rest of my career. We have an opportunity to at least challenge Chesterfield for that final play-off place." Vale boss Rob Page felt the timing of Andrews' goal was cruel on his team. He said: "That hurts quite a bit to be honest. I thought the lads were tremendous and they didn't deserve that. "It's splitting hairs perhaps but the referee has played 17 seconds over and, if he'd blown when we'd cleared the corner, we'd come away with a point and stop this run of luck that we're having at the minute and move forward. "We will do that anyway, but it's a case of picking the boys up after that - there were several chins on the floor after that. "Of course we are disappointed, we have just lost another game and they have given everything. We were good for a point and a clean sheet. To see that ball nestle in the back of the net was absolutely gutting."
