Chairman fires Port Vale warning

Chairman Norman Smurthwaite has warned some of Port Vale's under-performing players that they're playing for their futures at the club.

Vale were beaten 3-2 at home to struggling Crawley on Tuesday night as they slipped out of the top half of the table and six points behind sixth-placed Barnsley. Smurthwaite was clearly livid with the display Rob Page's men produced in front of their own fans and assured those who were below-par that they had done little to persuade him they were worthy of new contracts. Writing on his Twitter account, Smurthwaite said: "Valiants. I can think of lots of adjectives to describe last night. If that is playing for a new contract l hope they know how to make latte's."
