Buchanan: Cup win gives us edge

David Buchanan believes Preston's win over Port Vale in the JPT has given them a psychological edge ahead of Saturday's league clash.

A quirk of the fixture list means North End face back-to-back home games against Vale after they had last weekend off due to the international break. Prior to the hiatus, a strong Lilywhites XI recorded a 3-2 victory over the Valiants in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last Tuesday to deliver what Buchanan believes is a marker ahead of their second meeting in 12 days. "I don't know if they'll come here and play any differently," the full-back stated. "I just know that we've got one up on them now. We've won the game but we'll treat them with respect and work hard. "Whatever team the manager picks we'll go out and try and get three points in the league. The league's the most important thing to us and hopefully we can get another three points in front of the home fans." Assistant manager Glynn Snodin has also warned the visitors that North End's strength in depth means they could make personnel changes. Scott Wiseman, Bailey Wright and Josh Brownhill are among those who Simon Grayson may call upon this time around. "We know what Port Vale are and I don't think they will change much," Snodin added. "We can change one or two around but we know what their strengths are. We just need to get these recovered and get them firing."
