Adams disappointed by defending

Port Vale boss Micky Adams was disappointed with some of his side's defending in their 4-1 win over Bodmin Town.

It was Vale's sixth successive win of the summer and they took 67 seconds to open the scoring as Chris Birchall pounced on a loose ball in the box. Birchall soon turned provider as he set up Ben Williamson to make it two for the visitors and Colin Daniel's 10-yard header made it 3-0 before the home side pulled one back, through Rickki Shepherd. Mark Marshall's acute finish nine minutes from time allowed Vale to ease to victory in the second match of their south-west tour. Adams told the club's official website: "We got in some good crosses and had midfielders braking the lines and it was a good work out. "We worked on things in the morning in training and we tried to implement those things in the game. It is always pleasing when the things you work on in training have helped you. "They were a good side and I thought their front lads were lively. The other night Sam Johnson didn't have a save to make and he has made two or three tonight. "I was disappointed from that aspect, disappointed at the way their lads were able to get shots away. "I think when it becomes a bit too easy you get a bit sloppy with your defending and I said to them at half-time he had three saves to make and in league games they would have been goals, so we needed to tighten up on that."
