Adams' JPT selection justified

Port Vale boss Micky Adams felt his decision to name his strongest side was vindicated by the 2-0 JPT win over Tranmere.

Adams admitted he was close to making changes for the first time in five games as several of his fringe players were champing at the bit. But Vale's first-choice XI did the business against the weakened visitors as a second-half double from Jennison Myrie-Williams booked a place in the second round. "We've got good competition for places and there were players itching for a game but what we decided was justified in the performance," said Adams. "We played some good football, created chances and I felt we were on top for most of the game. We are very pleased with the confidence and life in the team at the moment. "Jennison topped a fine performance by him with two goals and Ashley Vincent also caused them problems. We are not going to kid ourselves though because it wasn't the best Tranmere side and they have decided to leave a few players out. "But you can only beat what's put in front of you and our boys have gone and done that. Winning any game is always good for confidence and we will need to produce our 'A' game when Rotherham come here in the league on Saturday."
