League Two side Port Vale have been boosted by the news that Gareth Owen's injury is not as bad as the club initially feared.
Owen was injured in training last Friday and missed the FA Cup tie against Grimsby the next day. It was thought the defender could be out for several weeks but scans have eased those concerns.
Owen has ruled himself out of the league trip to Cheltenham this weekend and the 29-year-old will be a doubt for the first-round replay against Grimsby at Blundell Park on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Vale have agreed to terminate the contract of full-back Mike Green, who joined the club on a two-year deal in the summer.
Green made four appearances for Micky Adams' men before suffering a hamstring injury in training. He joined Conference South side Eastleigh on loan in a bid to regain match fitness.
However, the 22-year-old wants to be closer to his family down south and he is expected to complete a permanent move to Eastleigh in the coming days.
