Embattled midfielder Gary Roberts' Port Vale career could still be salvaged, according to assistant manager Mark Grew.
The 24-year-old returned to the club on Monday after receiving a two-week suspension for failing to attend training, and Vale manager Micky Adams subsequently placed the midfielder on the transfer list.
But Grew believes Roberts he still has an opportunity to redeem himself, telling The Sentinel: "Gary came back into full training and it went fine.
"He got on with work, he trained hard and did extra work with (coach) Geoff Horsfield and then again in the afternoon.
"He had to pay the price for the nonsense that went on and now he's got to prove to the gaffer that he's worthy of a place in his team again.
"But he has a lot of hard work ahead of him and a big bridge to build with the gaffer. The gaffer did the right thing by disciplining him. But that's gone. Now it's about what Gary does."
