Vale deserved victory - Adams

Micky Adams felt 10-man Port Vale's victory at Plymouth in League Two on Saturday was "deserved".

Vale midfielder Gary Roberts took his season's goals tally to five with a double in a 2-0 win for Adams' side at Home Park. Roberts rifled in a 26th-minute opener from 20 yards and then tucked away an 84th-minute penalty after rookie Argyle defender Ladjie Soukouna had felled Rob Taylor. Soukouna saw red for the challenge, which meant both sides finished the game with 10 men as Vale skipper Marc Richards, who had teed up Roberts' opener, was sent off in the 51st minute following a tussle with Argyle striker Warren Feeney. Adams said: "It was a deserved win, we didn't start either half well, but I'm pleased with the result and the overall performance, particularly after going down to 10 men, which was disappointing. "We hung in there and had a decent shape and frustrated Plymouth. When we got the second goal it was game over. "It's never easy coming down here anyway, regardless of any situation that Plmyouth find themselves in. We spoke before the game about not giving them a lift. "We all know the problems they are facing and we genuinely feel for them. I was pleased with our commitment and the way we went about our business. We didn't really give Plymouth any real sniffs. I can't remember Chris Martin making a save. I was delighted with the way we defended."
