Port Vale physio Andy Foster is optimistic that Lewis Haldane will play this season after the winger broke his leg earlier this week.
Haldane is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg in two places during the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Tranmere on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old winger was due to undergo an operation on Wednesday but surgery has been delayed because the damaged leg is still swollen.
"The two straight edges of a straight clean break knit back together more easily, but with a spiral fracture it's a little more complex," Foster told the Sentinel.
"So his injury is a bit more serious than a clean break. But Lewis is still young and I would hope he can return to action before the end of the season."
