Port Vale have announced that club chairman Bill Bratt has resigned from his post after eight years in the job.

Director Mike Lloyd will take over the role in the short-term, with Bratt retaining his place on the board. Vale fans have become dismayed at the running of the club which resulted in shareholders giving the club's board, headed by Bratt, a vote of no confidence at an Extraordinary General Meeting in June. Bratt told The Sentinel: "I have been thinking the decision over for a few weeks and it has been tough because I care for the club almost as much as I do for my family. "I'm still, and always will be, a Port Vale fan, and that is why I want to remain a director. "But the club is bigger than any one person and hopefully with a new chairman we can put all the protesting to bed."
