Slew soon to sign Blades deal

Sheffield United teenager Jordan Slew is expected to sign a new contract at Bramall Lane before the end of the week.

Slew, 18, made his first-team breakthrough last season, scoring twice in a total of eight appearances, and manager Danny Wilson hopes to conclude the deal before the Blades head for Malta on Thursday. Manager Danny Wilson said: "I'm hoping we will have some sort of positive news in the next 24 to 48 hours, which is terrific for us and testimony to the handwork of [director] Scott McCabe and [head of football administration] Carl Shieber, among others. "We've got to the stage where the boy is nearly ready to commit to us. It will be excellent for everyone to put this to bed before going to Malta." Wilson added: "We want to keep all our better players and I've said before with Jordan that he's got to realise his potential and he's far better off trying to do that here rather than starting his career in the reserves or youth-team at a Premier League club."
