Yates commits to Vale deal

Port Vale right-back Adam Yates has revealed he is ready to sign his contract extension this week.

The 27-year-old was offered a new two-year deal last week with his current terms set to expire in the summer, and he is wasting little time putting pen to paper despite having until the end of June to listen to potential offers from rival clubs. Yates told the Sentinel: "The new deal will take me up until I'm 30. That's relatively young these days, but I love Vale and would like to keep playing here for as long as I can." Yates is the first of three Vale players recently offered extensions to sign the terms on the table, with decisions still to come from centre-back Gareth Owen and midfielder Doug Loft. Owen has admitted he will wait until the end of the season before coming to a decision on his two-year deal, with the 28-year-old former Stockport man keen to focus on the club's promotion bid over the remaining five matches. Kris Taylor and Gary Roberts are also out of contract in the summer.
