Motherwell midfielder out to play through the storm

Motherwell's Steve Jennings has insisted he is innocent after being suspended over a betting scandal. The midfielder is under investigation from the Scottish Football Association and the Association of British Bookmakers after he received a controversial red card against Hearts in December. It has been discovered that there were irregular betting patterns in the Merseyside area - where Jennings is from - after he was sent off for his outburst against the referee.

The 26-year-old has maintained that he has not acted in an improper manner, but the respective bodies are continuing to investigate the matter. Yet, Jennings insists he will not allow the cloud of uncertainty around him to dilute the quality of his performances and praised his manager for his support. "I appreciate the fact the manager put me straight back in the side after my suspension but not any more than I normally would be," he told the Daily Record. "Has it been difficult after everything that's happened? Not really, I'm a footballer and I'm paid to play football - it's as simple as that. "It's hard for me to speak about it. But when I go out on that pitch I want to win more than anyone, you can see that by the way I play. "That's just the way I am, it's a routine for me that won't change."
