Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman has confirmed his interest in signing Portsmouth's Michael Brown.

Freedman wants left-back and midfielder before window closes

Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman has confirmed his interest in signing Portsmouth's experienced midfielder Michael Brown. Freedman is keen to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes and wants to sign a midfielder and left-back before Monday's deadline. Brown has not played for Pompey since Boxing Day as one more appearance would trigger a new contract on wages that the club cannot afford. The 34-year-old has attracted plenty of interest during January and has been linked with the likes of Wolves, Cardiff City and Norwich City. Palace could also be an option for Brown after Freedman revealed he is considering whether to make an approach to sign the player on loan.

Experience

"He is one we are looking at," said Freedman in the Croydon Advertiser. "We know we need some experience in the middle of the park and he might be the answer. "There are other targets as well that I don't want to name at the moment, but I can assure the supporters we are doing our best to get more people in to strengthen the squad. "We haven't got a recognised left-back at the club. Lee Hills is still some way off a return so that's another area we are looking at."
