Defender plays second half of friendly win over Rushden

Former Preston North End defender Liam Chilvers has linked up with Peterborough United as he searches for a new club. Chilvers was not offered a new contract by Preston at the end of last season and he attracted interest from Charlton Athletic earlier in the summer. However, the 28-year-old has now joined Peterborough on trial and he featured in Saturday's pre-season friendly against Rushden & Diamonds. The centre-half played the second half of the 1-0 win and was joined in the team by experienced French defender Franck Queudrue. The former Birmingham City man had appeared in Posh's friendly against West Ham earlier in the week and was given another opportunity to impress boss Gary Johnson against Rushden. Johnson told the club's official website: "We believe that we may need a bit of experience at the back and there is no doubt that these two players offer that. "They will both play against Aston Villa on Monday night and be involved at Gillingham on Tuesday night. "I will then have to make a decision on where we go from there, but they have done well and we will see what happens. You can see they have a bit of quality."
