Port Vale manager Micky Adams has revealed that midfielder Gary Roberts is training with the club.
Roberts is currently a free agent after being released by Rotherham United in April.
The 23-year-old has struggled with disciplinary problems at his last three teams, but has been handed a lifeline by the Vale.
Adams told The Sentinel: "Gary is training with us which allows us to have a look at him. I don't know anything about him apart from his off-field escapades.
"That's not a concern because if he steps out of line he'll be gone and I've laid everything out to him. He's got a bit of baggage, but I've handled bigger and better players than him."
Adams will now assess the fitness of the midfielder before deciding whether to involve him in either of this weekend's pre-season games at Harborough Town on Saturday or Sunday's visit to Biddulph Victoria.
