Teenager considered quitting football

Port Vale midfielder Ross Davidson has signed a new 12-month contract with the League Two club. The 19-year-old, who progressed from Vale's youth setup, enjoyed his most successful campaign to date last season, making a total of 25 appearances in all competitions for the first team. Davidson is now focused on next season after revealing he even considered walking away from football. He told the club's official website: "I am looking for a fresh start. There is a lot of ability in the team and it will be good for us to have fresh ideas from the new gaffer. "I'm going to have to be patient if I'm not involved, but obviously I want to get straight into the team or into the squad as soon as possible. I will aim high and do my best to make sure I'm good enough to get into the team. "I've been thinking very hard about other options I've had, maybe even going out of the game, but I had talks with the people around me and have decided to give it a go and hopefully prove that I'm good enough to play in the league. "It's make or break for me. It's going to be a tough season. I have got to improve and show that I'm good enough to play football. It's a tough game to get into and it's easy to fall out of, so I need to stamp my mark on it."
