Adam Yates has signed for Port Vale on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract at Morecambe.

The 26-year-old has penned a two-year deal with the League Two outfit.

Yates become Vale's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Brighton midfielder Tom Fraser.

The full-back had spent the last three years with Morecambe, helping the Shrimps to promotion into the Football League in 2007.

He was initially targeted by former Vale boss Dean Glover, prior to his departure, but has completed his move to the Potteries following discussions with new coach Micky Adams.

"My decision to not pursue my contract with Morecambe had something to do with Vale's interest," Yates told The Sentinel.

"I had spoken to Dean Glover, but Micky Adams has come in and given me his approval. He told me in no uncertain terms that he didn't have to sign me if he didn't want me here.

"I am in debt to him now and am going to look to repay him over the course of the season."

Meanwhile, Vale have also tied defender Luke Prosser down on a new one-year deal.
