Defender Adam Yates is set to be Micky Adams' first signing as manager at Port Vale.
The 26-year-old had agreed personal terms with the club before Adams' arrival, after being released by Morecambe at the end of the season.
With Adams backing the agreement, Yates is expected to sign a two-year contract within the next few days.
Vale chairman Bill Bratt told The Sentinel: "We had an agreement with Adam Yates which we should be obliged to see through.
"Micky Adams knows about it and we are going to sit down on Monday to look at the budget and at the squad.
"We have agreed with Adam that he will come to the club and I believe Micky is happy with that, even though his arrival was decided by the previous management regime.
"I think Adam will be an asset."
