Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Anyon has been ruled out for the rest of the season after fracturing his tibia in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Chesterfield.

The 22-year-old required oxygen and was stretchered off just before half-time following a collision with Drew Talbot.

Eighteen-year-old Chris Martin, who replaced Anyon at Saltergate, is now set to deputise until the end of the campaign.

Anyon underwent surgery on Sunday and can expect a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"Definitely the season's over for him," said Vale physio John Bower. "Realistically he's looking at about four months out."

The injury casts doubts over Anyon's future at Vale Park, with the highly-rated keeper out of contract in the summer.
