Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Anyon has delayed signing a new contract because he wants 'answers' from the League Two club.

"I'm not saying I want to move elsewhere, but I do want to better myself"
Joe Anyon Quotes of the week

The 22-year-old has been linked with a host of Premier League sides and his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

But despite being offered new terms, Anyon has told skysports.com that he is postponing discussions on his future.

"I've been offered a new contract, but at the moment I just want to see this season out first and sit tight until then," said the shot-stopper.

"There are a lot of things going on at the club that you want answers about before you sign, and at the end of the day I just want to continue playing first-team football."

Ambitious

Anyon insists he is not actively seeking to leave Vale Park and is keen to help the club maintain their Football League status, but the shot-stopper is ambitious in his career.

"It would be disappointing to leave, but everyone moves on eventually and you've got to want to better yourself," he added.

"My ambition is to play at the highest level I can and sometimes you have to look after yourself.

"I'm not saying that I am going to leave Port Vale and that I want to move elsewhere, but I do want to better myself and if that means staying with the club and working hard with them then that's what I will do.

"I can't really answer any questions over my future at the moment until our league status is secured and then whatever happens in the summer happens."
