Port Vale manager Dean Glover is eager to tie goalkeeper Joe Anyon to a new deal.
The highly-rated 22-year-old was linked with a move away from Vale Park during the transfer window and his current contract expires in the summer.
He has been a consistently impressive performer for Vale this season and Glover would like him to commit his future to the club.
"I've tried to set the ball rolling and I'm waiting on Joe's agent to come back to me. I'd like to sit down and talk about a new contract," Glover told The Sentinel.
"He's a young lad who is going to get better and over the last month or so he's started to get back to his old self.
"I think Joe is a good asset for the club and he would be in the future."
Glover only has a limited budget and he admits it could be difficult to keep Anyon at Port Vale.
He added: "I can only offer Joe what I can offer him.
"If people can offer him more money and that suits Joe, then he will go where he wants to go.
"I can only offer him what's in front of me and I won't break the bank."
