Walsall looking to bolster their numbers

Walsall have offered a trial to Kevin O'Connor as they look to get fresh faces on board. The Saddlers are down to the bare bones defensively as a result of suspensions to Rhys Weston and Netan Sansara. As a result, Jimmy Mullen is keen to bring in cover and has already identified a number of possibilities. Former Wolves man O'Connor is one such option, as he is available on a free transfer and impressed during a reserve run-out against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday. However, Mullen admits he is yet to come to a decision regarding potential new arrivals.

Problems

He told the Express and Star: "We have discussed one or two things and loans are an option I am looking at. I don't want to leave myself bare because, at the moment, with the suspensions, we have only got 17 outfield players. "If I get a problem with my centre-backs I've got Manny Smith and if I lose another full-back we have Chris Palmer and Richard Taundry and Sofi Zaaboub can play there too. "If we lose anyone else, that's going to be the problem." As well as O'Connor, veteran striker Geoff Horsfield is currently training with the club. Mullen admits he has been impressed by the former West Brom man's attitude, but has played down speculation suggesting the powerful front-man is set to sign for the Saddlers.
