Sonner aiming to 'do a Teddy'

Port Vale midfielder Danny Sonner is eager to play on until he is 40.

Port Vale midfielder Danny Sonner is eager to play on until he is 40.

The 35-year-old feels he is fit enough to continue for a few more years and emulate West Ham veteran Teddy Sheringham, who is just a couple of weeks away from his 41st birthday.

Sonner is out of contract at the end of this season but is desperate to be given a new deal.

"I think I could do a Teddy Sheringham and play until I'm 40," Sonner, who scored in the 3-2 defeat to Tranmere on Saturday, told The Sentinel.

"I am fit and strong. I enjoy it at Port Vale and I feel as though I could go on for another four or five years.

"I look after myself and think I could go on that long without a doubt. If you look after yourself, you can keep going."
