Midfielder Robin Hulbert has signed a new short-term contract to stay at Port Vale.

The 26-year-old battler moved to Vale Park in the summer of 2004 from non-league Telford United.

He impressed in his first season with The Valiants, but suffered a broken ankle in pre-season last year and missed the majority of the 2005/06 campaign.

Manager Martin Foyle has therefore taken the precautionary measure of only offering him a six-month deal until he can prove his recovery is complete and long lasting.

"After watching him get 45 minutes under his belt at Torquay on Saturday, I have decided to go with him," Foyle explained.

"He is still adding to his fitness levels slowly but he has impressed us so far."
