Dickov keeps faith in Doncaster

Paul Dickov said Doncaster needed to keep believing after a 2-1 home defeat to Gillingham in a game they had dominated.

The first half was completely one-sided, but Doncaster paid the penalty for not making the most of their possession and pressure when powerful striker Luke Norris struck twice for the Gills after the interval. Dickov said: "It's just not happening for us at home and it's very frustrating. "We created at least 20 attempts at goal and hit the crossbar, but we needed a penalty to score, whereas they had two shots at goal and scored twice. "It's frustrating to say the least for all concerned - the fans, the players and me included. "But we just have to stay strong and keep believing because we can't play much better than that without winning." Rovers have only won once at home since March and Dickov added: "It's sickening because we played well enough to have won several games but it hasn't happened for us. "In fairness to the players their heads haven't gone down and if they continue to work at it I'm sure our luck will change." Norris fired Gillingham in front against the run of play in the 52nd minute and hit them again with another sucker-punch goal with a rocketing shot from 20 yards following another counter-attack. Rovers had numerous chances to get back in the match, but were out of luck until Curtis Main scored from the penalty spot after Max Ehmer had brought down Theo Robinson in stoppage time. It was Gillingham's first away league win of the season and stretched their unbeaten run to six games to the delight of manager Peter Taylor.. Taylor said: "We knew Doncaster were a good footballing side and they played some very good stuff in the first half. "If they had scored then it might have been different, but we were resilient and the longer it goes in those situations the more frustrating it gets for the team that has been knocking on the door. "The first goal was really important, but I felt we played a lot better in the second half and got our just desserts in the end. "We changed it round after the interval and put Norris up front by himself and I thought he did very well. "He scored two fantastic goals and looked confident all afternoon . "I wasn't happy with our first-half performance because Doncaster had far too many shots and we were on the back foot. "But we improved when we had to and the unbeaten run has given us confidence to go on and do a lot better."
