Gillingham have appointed Andy Hessenthaler as assistant manager and announced the signing of Aldershot goalkeeper Glenn Morris.

Former Gills favourite Hessenthaler, who made over 300 appearances for the club as a player, returns to the League One side following two previous spells as manager at the Priestfield Stadium. The 48-year-old spent last season scouting for promoted Burnley but will now work alongside current Gills manager Peter Taylor having played under him during Gillingham's promotion-winning season of 1999/2000. Morris, meanwhile, played 31 times last year for the Skrill Premier League side, keeping seven clean sheets, and will become Peter Taylor's first signing of the summer. Morris' current contract with the Shots is due to expire on July 1 and the experienced 30-year-old is expected to provide competition to Gills' player of the year last season Stuart Nelson.
