Silkmen's slump irks Simpson

Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson admits it is becoming difficult to stay positive after his side's seventh consecutive defeat.

Visitors Aldershot claimed a 1-0 victory in Saturday's League Two encounter thanks to Aaron Morris' 65th-minute goal, which came seven minutes after Macc full-back Carl Tremarco saw red for a lunge on Guy Madjo. With a huge casualty list and deteriorating confidence just two of the problems facing Simpson at present, the Moss Rose boss conceded life as a Silkman is hard to handle. "It is a difficult period for us," he said. "We have lost seven on the trot now. If we had had a fully fit squad we could have put some points on the board in that time, but unfortunately for us things have gone against us and we are just trying our best. "I don't want to let the players get down. I've got to keep them up and be positive but it's difficult, especially today, as I think this was a game we could have won. "There was nothing in it. We had the better chances in the first half and could have had the lead, but obviously the sending-off has cost us and they have had a few chances at the end, but that was when we had thrown everyone forward."
