Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has backed teenager Jack Evans to shine after handing him his senior debut against Torquay.
The 18-year-old, a graduate of the club's academy system, was introduced as a substitute in the 5-2 triumph over Torquay and Hessenthaler admits he is a useful option due to his versatility.
He told the Kent Messenger: "I wouldn't hesitate, if we had a problem with Matt Fish, to throw the young lad in there, he can handle it I am sure.
"It was his first appearance and he has a bright future.
"He can play in a number of positions, left-back or right-back, and he can play midfield. He is a strong boy."
