Gills give Kuffour time to shine

Jo Kuffour has the opportunity to earn a permanent switch to Gillingham should be impress while on loan between now and December 30.

The striker completed a 93-day switch from Bristol Rovers last Friday, making his debut as a second-half substitute just 24 hours later as Gills went down 3-1 at AFC Wimbledon. Kuffour is longing for a move closer to London and, despite offers from League One sides in other areas of the country, was unable to find a new club before the close of the August transfer window. But Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler insists the 29-year-old now has the opportunity to clinch a move to Priestfield should he prove his worth on loan over the coming months. "His deal runs until (the start of) January. He will be playing and then we can decide if we take it further. He gives us an option," Hessenthaler told Kent Online. "If he does great, then it is a view to a permanent deal."
