Kuffour wants fresh start

Jo Kuffour reckons a poor relationship with Bristol Rovers boss Paul Buckle and chairman Nick Higgs influenced his Gillingham move.

The striker moved to the Kent club last week on loan having fallen out of favour at the Memorial Stadium and, after he played his first minutes for the Gills in their 3-1 defeat to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, he revealed how he felt he was going stale at the Pirates. But now the former Arsenal trainee is keen to start afresh and put all that stormy past behind him. "I've had a tough couple of months, it's never really happened to me where I've been left out of the squad but obviously (it happened) for different reasons," he told the Kent Messenger. "(I've had) arguments with the manager and the chairman, so I just want to get back to playing football and enjoying myself again. "I've been a Bristol quite a while now so it's nice to get a fresh start. I just want to get back to playing football. I have always believed in my ability. I know I wasn't left out of the (Rovers) squad because of ability."
