Njogu Demba-Nyren has been training with League Two club Gillingham with a view to joining Andy Hessenthaler's squad.
The 32-year-old Gambia international will get a chance to impress Hessenthaler when the Gills take on Ipswich in a behind-closed-doors friendly match.
Hessenthaler told Kent News: "He's been training with us and we'll have a look at him [at Ipswich]. It came from an agent who asked us to have a look at him, he played for West Ham and it didn't work out there for him, the level was too much.
"In training he's looked okay but you never really know until you see them in a real match."
Demba-Nyren has played in Denmark, Norway and Bulgaria and finished last season at npower League One club Notts County, where he scored once in 12 appearances.
