Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler says a potential move for Kevin Lisbie remains a possibility after talks with the striker this week.

Reports on Monday suggested the 32-year-old was unwilling to drop down to League Two following his summer release by Ipswich but Lisbie, currently on trial at an unnamed Championship team, has put in a phone call to Hessenthaler to assure him that was not the case. The Gills boss told the club's official website: "I'd like to put the record straight for Kevin because I have actually had a conversation with him this week. He phoned me on Tuesday evening because I think he was a little bit distressed and disappointed with some of the press stories that have come out claiming he wasn't prepared to drop down to League Two. "I actually hadn't seen the press reports because I don't read the papers, but the lad has been terrific. He phoned me out of decency, because he knows me, to say that isn't the case. He would be prepared to come down to this level but at the moment he wants to keep his options open." Hessenthaler added: "He told me he is a Gillingham fan and I believe he is. He is a good lad and I think he felt he might have offended me and the fans, and perhaps disrespected the football club, by saying he wouldn't be prepared to drop down to this level. "At the moment he is trialing with another club and I think he would like to stay in a higher division and you can't blame the lad for that. I've told him that we would like him to come to Gillingham if there is a possibility and he didn't rule it out."
