Hess not resting on laurels

Manager Andy Hessenthaler refused to get carried away after Gillingham maintained their 100% start to the season at Crewe.

Two goals in as many first-half minutes from Chris Whelpdale and Danny Spiller helped Gills to a 2-1 victory. But they were clinging on when Shaun Miller's second-half strike sparked a Crewe revival. "Our fans shouting 'Ole' didn't help and complacency set in," said Hessenthaler. "In the end we were hanging on. "We've made a great start and it's nice to have two wins but we can't get carried away. But this isn't an easy place to get a result so I am very pleased that we showed togetherness to ensure we got it. "Last year we probably would have lost that game and it shows how hard we are working as a team to grind out results. "There were a lot of positives to take from the game but there were also a few things that weren't so good that we need to learn from."
