Hessenthaler: Wants a new frontman

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler insists a new striker remains at the top of his summer wish list.

Last season's three top scorers Cody McDonald, Adebayo Akinfenwa and Andy Barcham have all left the Priestfield respectively and while Danny Kedwell has been brought in from AFC Wimbledon, Hessenthaler knows he needs to further strengthen his attacking options.

He told the club's official website: "The chairman has been terrific, he's given me the opportunity to bring in some quality players.

"We obviously need another striker and probably another keeper to really push some of the players we've got already. I'm always looking and the chairman has been working very hard on that situation.

"There are lots of good strikers out there and a lot of good players out of work. It's still an early part of pre-season so there is plenty of time.

"When I played under Tony Pulis we would see four or five players turn up in the lead up to the start of the season so it can happen quite late, we'll just have to wait and see."
