Gills boss scopes out trio

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler tested trialists Jake Cole, Gregory N'Goyi and Jack Baldwin at Ashford United on Wednesday.

Gills kicked off their pre-season preparations with a routine 3-0 friendly triumph and Hessenthaler used the opportunity to take a look at former Barnet keeper Cole, Hendon striker N'Goyi and Faversham defender Baldwin. He told the club's official website: "No disrespect to Ashford but I thought we were pretty comfortable and Jake Cole could probably do with playing another game for us. There is a possibility that he could be involved at the weekend (away to Bromley) along with a number of other trialists. "Gregory could probably have scored a couple of goals. He missed a couple of opportunities but he worked hard up there and I thought he did pretty well. "We played young Jack Baldwin at the back in the second half and I thought he looked very comfortable for a lad who has only just turned 18." Hessenthaler also insisted a late calf injury sustained by new signing Charlie Lee is nothing to worry about.
