Defender to leave on free transfer

Skysports.com understands Josh Gowling is set to leave Gillingham at the end of the season. Gowling's contract at Priestfield expires this summer and he is poised to leave on a free transfer after failing to agree a new deal at the League Two hopefuls. Former West Brom youngster Gowling has established himself as a key player in the Gillingham side since arriving on a permanent basis in the summer of 2009 after an impressive loan spell at the club. Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is believed to have indicated to Gowling that he would offer him a new contract , but a deal was never forthcoming With Gillingham failing to come up with an offer in time it appears Gowling will be moving on with a number of clubs tracking the central-half. Gowling's, adviser, Gerald Harrington, has revealed the defender is set to move on this summer with a number of clubs showing an interest in his services. "Josh is available on a free transfer at the end of this season and it looks like he will be moving on," Harrington told skysports.com. "Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler promised Josh that he would be getting a new deal, but the offer never arrived and they have left it too late now. "It is a shame it has come to this as Josh loves playing for Gillingham and he loves the fans, but he has no choice to move on after what has happened. "I am talking to interested clubs in Josh with clubs higher up the league keen on signing him."
