Spiller backs McDonald deal

Gillingham's attempts to tie leading scorer Cody McDonald to a permanent deal have been given Danny Spiller's backing.

Gills are keen to strike a deal for McDonald, who has scored 23 league goals in 36 appearances since joining from Norwich on a season-long loan deal. And Spiller hopes the club are successful in their efforts to prise McDonald, 24, away from the Championship club. "Obviously he just looks like he can score in any game and without him we wouldn't have the amount of points on the board that we do," Spiller told Kent Online. "We are doing our absolute best and I sit next to him in the changing room. I tell him every day that he is my favourite player." Recalling McDonald's arrival last August, Spiller added: "I hadn't heard an awful lot about him. I was pleasantly surprised and so let's hope we can keep him."
