Former Ajax youngster Stanley Aborah is hoping he can convince Gillingham to offer him a contract.
At the age of 17, the Ghana-born midfielder made an appearance in the UEFA Champions League for Ajax, but since then his career has tailed off thanks to a succession of injuries.
Now 23, Aborah has been training with Gillingham and is hoping for a fresh start if manager Andy Hessenthaler decides to offer him a deal.
"It would be a great start for me and I'd be very happy to play for Gillingham," Aborah told Kent Online.
"Being out was terrible - it was very difficult. Sometimes you think am I going to play again or not."
Aborah admits that League Two football is not what he is accustomed to, but feels he is ready for the challenge, adding: "It's hard for me as I need to get used to the level and the difference of playing, but I think I'll do well."
